Air Peace is set to resume flights into Akure on Monday, November 2, 2020, after flights were grounded at the airport last week.
It was gathered that a crater was allegedly dug on the runway by some unknown persons last Sunday.
The development was said to have forced the management of the airport to close the runway, preventing flights from taking off or landing at the airport, resulting in series of flight cancellations.
Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, however, intervened in the matter on Thursday.
“The governor had sorted the situation and the airport has reopened for business. We are resuming Akure flights on Monday.”
The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, confirmed that the state government had to intervene in the interest of the people and businesses.
Following the state government’s intervention, the airline has now scheduled flights for Monday.
Speaking to our correspondent in a telephone interview, spokesperson for Air Peace, Stanley Olisa confirmed that flights would resume on Monday.
He said, “The governor had sorted the situation and the airport has reopened for business. We are resuming Akure flights on Monday.”
The carrier had recently announced that it would also soon commence regular commercial flight operations between Lagos and Johannesburg.
