Guinness Nigeria PLC, FIRS discuss how to strengthen ties for Nigeria’s benefit

The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, and his management team on Wednesday March 27, 2024, received the MD/CEO of Guinness Nigeria PLC, Adebayo Alli and his team at the FIRS headquarters in Abuja.

The purpose of the visit was for the Guinness Nigeria Plc team to familiarize themselves with the FIRS boss and his management team.

This further goes into the already existing collaborative relationship between the FIRS and Guinness Nigeria Ltd.

According to Adebayo Alli, Guinness Nigeria has been in existence in Nigeria for the past 74 years and hopes to celebrate the 75th year of operations next year. This shows the faith Nigerians have in the brand and it is reflected through the long lasting relationship between Nigeria and the Guinness Nigeria Ltd brand.

The continuous existence and success of Guinness Nigeria Ltd is vital to the pulse of the Nigerian Economy. The value chain this relationship brings is such that at a glance, Guinness Nigeria is responsible for the livelihood of over 300,000 farmers.

He concluded by stating that the continuous success of Guinness Nigeria is vital to all stakeholders.

Adedeji, in his remarks acknowledged the importance of having a seamless relationship with businesses and companies like Guinness Nigeria Ltd.

According to him “Guinness Nigeria is one of our important large taxpayers”, it is in the effort to strengthen such relationships the FIRS embarked on a transformative restructuring process. “Our mandate is to assess, collect and account for taxes, afterall, taxpayers are our only customers”.

The purpose of the restructuring is three fold:

– Improve Expertise amongst staff to enable them better serve taxpayers

– Provide a one stop shop for taxpayers, this will improve taxpayers customer experience

– Have Tax control and audit channelled through one port. This will help coordination and reduce multiple human interface.

He concluded by saying “Guinness Nigeria Ltd is one of the trees in our garden, sometimes we have to prune the weeds away to make the tree fruitful”, by doing so, we simply tax returns on investment. The more successful Guinness Nigeria Ltd is, the best it is for us.”
